| ROBBED OF HOPE
Janet lost her husband after twenty years of marriage.
He had become depressed and contracted cancer of the stomach after years
of working in the revolving cycle of the criminal justice system.
Daily he witnessed young men caught in a system that made them more violent
and angry. Before he died he confided the misery and violence had
robbed him of hope and the will to live. I spoke with Janet a month
before the twelve-month anniversary of his death. She confessed to
having pains in her heart as the anniversary drew closer. She had
gone to the doctor for heart medicine even though she was sure it was psychosomatic.
I recommended she come in for an appointment.

| ANGER AND GUILT
Within the first few minutes after we began her session
she revealed anger and guilt about still being alive with him gone.
A common reaction. We began to work with guided imagery explaining
she would remain awake and in control of the process. After a relaxation
technique I suggested she visit the garden he had so lovingly created behind
their house and invite his spirit to join her. Instantly
she was with him and they began a conversation independent of me.
Periodically she shared their conversation. When he had finished
his instructions to her regarding the house and insurance etc. she grew
silent, as did he.

| LETTING GO WITH GUIDED IMAGERY
I described a lovely bridge at the corner of the garden
enveloped in a beautiful mist. I asked her to pick his favorite flower
and give it to him. After she gave him the flower I asked her to
let his spirit walk across the bridge to the other side. She began
to softly cry saying she did not want to let him go. I explained
she could visit with him anytime she wanted but she needed to let his spirit
cross over. He would not go until she released him. After one
hour and forty-five minutes she let him go.

| THE POWER OF GRIEF IS NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED
She called the next day to say her heart pain had completely vanished. I reminded her she had been repeating "Why am I still here" over and over again since his passing. Her subconscious heard her pleas and set about giving her a way out, accommodating her with heart pains. A heart attack would surely enable her to join her husband. The moment of recognition was met in a hushed silence! She is a very intelligent person. She experienced a life and death thunderbolt insight into the ultimate power of the mind over the body. I suggested she be mindful of her thoughts. Her heart pains have never returned.

One session. No pills. No surgery. No
pain. We liberated her from her grief before the physical manifestation
of her guilt and anger caused real damage.
